You Outta Know: Trixie and Katya

Something you may or may not know about me is that I’m obsessed with drag queens. Seriously, I think drag performers might be some of the most talented and creative people on the planet - the skill set required is just insane, from costume design to make up to comedy, acting, songwriting, dancing and more - drag queens are the kind of magical unicorns that can just DO IT ALL, while snatched to the gods in heels higher than any I would ever dare don.

Two of my favorite icons in this category who display all of the Courage, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent I could only DREAM of possessing are Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova. Both queens were introduced to the world when they first appeared on season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and subsequent appearances on separate runs of the shows All Stars series, but Trixie and Katya are really the Mary Kate and Ashley of drag - using the show as a launching pad to do whatever the hell they want - because it’s their world, not RuPaul’s.

Together the duo found a deeper, much more ownable and unique kind of fame with their YouTube series UNHhhh (loosely pronounced UUUUUUNNNNNHHHHHhhhhhhh) which I have seen every episode of at least 50 times if not more. It’s the content I put during the pandemic whenever I needed an ESCAPE and to laugh - which was pretty much every day. The show features Trixie and Katya, a green screen, weekly topics from Shame to The Weather, out of this world editing and effects and is just plain HILARIOUS.

Beyond UNHhhh the two queens have also excelled at numerous other projects both separately and together. As a team they have written a New York Times best selling book Trixie and Katya’s Guide To Modern Womanhood, starred in the Netflix Youtube Series I Like To Watch, and have also released an excellent podcast called The Bald and the Beautiful. Separately Trixie has flourished with her own eponymous cosmetics line and country music career (including a documentary on Netflix called Moving Parts), while Katya has shined in acting gigs and has released some extremely entertaining music in her own right as well as putting on a killer one woman show.

Now the two are finally giving the post-pandemic world what it has longed for - a national tour together in the spring of March 2022 and oh hoooooooney my body is READY.
