Meet Your New Crush: DEPTFORD GOTH

Deptford Goth

If I was going to have a faux musical boyfriend right now, it would be Daniel Woolhouse better known as South London artist Deptford Goth. I mean, even just taking the previous sentence and above photo as reference point alone you have several essential crushworthy ingredients right there ie: beard (duh), looks somewhat emo slash introspective, also obvious british accent factor equals book me a one way ticket to swooooooonsville like ASAP.

And then you compound this with the fact that he's entirely self depricating in an oh-so-charming (at least in a press release) kind of way, saying things like "I've had messages from people all over the world about my music and every time I read one it blows my mind to think my stupid songs have travelled that far" in reference to his upcoming first ever North American tour, on which he really hopes to make contact with fans because the opportunity to do so would just be "amazing and beyond anything I ever thought I would be able to do." I MEAN YOU FEEL ME ON THIS, RIGHT LADIES (oh oh oh and did I mention he is also an elementary school teacher....)?

Okay okay okay... I digress. The actual important point here really is that Deptford Goth's album Life After Defo is the kind of stunningly and personally emotive debut that doesn't come around very often, full of slow building synths and gently unfolding intimate lyrics. At times it seems almost so intensely and tenderly constructed that as a listener you sometimes have to wonder if with it's heart-on-his-sleeve nature it was really ever meant to make its way to a audience's ear. That, combined with Woolhouse's own seemingly introverted nature should make for a very unique live experience indeed.
