My CMJ this year was pretty uneventful to say the least. Or maybe underwhelming is a better word. It seems as though the entire "festival" has become far more of a fun social networking activity than an opportunity to get turned on to a lot of great talent. Not to say that I didn't see some awesome bands (the showcase I put on with Battering Room and Hilly Town was full of them!) and a lot of the new artists I saw were good, but not really great or OH MY GOD I NEED TO TELL EVERYONE AND THEIR MOM AND THEIR MOM'S BLOG about this RIGHT NOW. So it goes, I guess.
One of the new artists that I DID see and have kept on repeat since the fest is Aussie band Little Red. This quintet of charming gents play fun, light-hearted indie pop rock with just the right amount of layered harmony make your feet tap and perhaps your heart quiver, too. They just released their 2010 album Midnight Remember stateside October 25th on True Panther (a single from it already went gold in Australia) so hopefully this means lots more trips stateside are soon to come.
