One of my favorite new artists this year, hands down, is local NYC band Yellow Ostrich. The brainchild/bedroom project of of the immensely talented Alex Schaaf has ridden a fairly immense tidal
wave of buzz over the past several months since CMJ times and are on the verge of crossing over from blog darlings to a BIG BIG kind of thing. Their album The Mistress is the kind of intricate magical record that you don't get much of these days: nothing trendy or too perfectly polished but rather songs that sound that they came directly from Alex's heartstrings and that's something worth more than just hype. I can't get enough of it.
Tonight you should make your way to Pianos where Matt of A Heart Is A Spade presents the band along side a very very solid line up, and if you live elsewhere, below are their upcoming tour dates. NOT TO BE MISSED. Also make sure you listen to the their cover of Don't Haunt This Place by Rural Alberta Advantage, it might be one of my favorite covers ever.
