PODCAST PROFILE: Babysitters Club Club
Have you ever taken a moment to consider that The Babysitter's Club, a cherished literary series for pre-teens about a group of girl friends who start their own business in their hometown is actually a seminal examination of the implications of the patriarchy in modern society?
Well that's okay, because I hadn't either but fortunately two other humans with at a minimum 1st grade reading level and seemingly a lot of time on their hands have done the work for you to make that seem like an entirely possible conclusion because that's literally the entire premise of The Babysitter's Club Club podcast. Book by book, two 30 year old guys named Jack Shepherd and Tanner Greenring discuss each of the decades old tombs of the Babysitter's Club series by Ann M Martin in chronological order and they go in depth. If you think it would be absolutely HILARIOUS to hear childhood novels about tween babysitters in an imaginary New England suburb deconstructed as if they were real literature ie: direct quote: "there is a lot of toxic masculinity in these girls lives," you would be SO SO RIGHT.
